Ulundhan kuzhambu

Ulundhan kuzhambu|ulundhu kuzhambu|black urad dal curry recipe 


This is one of my favourite recipes. Very tasty and healthy curry

black lentil has many health benifits, already i have shared a very healthy and delicious Ulundhan kanji recipe,

It is very easy to make this kuzhambu, adding veggies is completely your choice, drumstick and brinjal gives a good flavour to the ulundhan kuzhambu if added, very basic version of ulundhan kuzhambu is to do with shallot and tomato, no other veggies are added to that.

Ingredients

2 tsp oil
1 tsp Mustard
1/4 cup of shallot
4 tomatoes
2 Drumsticks
1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
1 1/2 tsp chilli powder
1 cup black urad dal/ulundhu 
1/4 cup of Coconut
1/2 tsp of cumin
Curry leaves
Salt as required

Instructions

  • Rinse the Black urad dal and pressure cook till 4 to 5 whistles until it turns soft
  • Meanwhile in a pan add oil then add chopped shallot and saute well till it turns translucent
  • Then add chopped tomatoes and cook until it turns soft 
  • Add chopped drumsticks and start adding masalas like turmeric powder and chilli powder and add required salt
  • Add required water and bring it to boil, cook till the drumstick is done
  • Add this to cooked black urad dal and bring it to boil
  • Now add coconut, cumin and shallot to a jar and make a fine paste by adding little water, add this to curry and cook till the raw smell disappears
  • Now finally add tempering to the Curry by add oil, mustard, onion and curry leaves in a small pan and golden fry them.

Rinse the Black urad dal and pressure cook till 4 to 5 whistles until it turns soft



Add oil in a kadai


Then add shallots and saute well, till it becomes translucent


Then add chopped tomatoes and salt, give a good mix




Add turmeric powder



Add chilli powder


Add drumstick 


Add required water and bring it to boil, until the raw smell disappears 



Add this to pressure cooker


Now add coconut, cumin and shallot to a jar and make a fine paste by adding little water



Add this coconut paste to ulundhan kuzhambu and bring it to boil



Add tempering, by adding oil in a small pan and then add mustard, finely chopped onion and curry leaves, golden fry it



Add this to ulundhan kuzhambu 



Turn off the flame and healthy ulundhan kuzhambu is ready to serve with white rice along with some poriyal which tastes very delicious and healthy too .
