Ulundhan kanji

Ulundhan Kanji ( black gram porridge )



Ulundhan Kanji is a very healthy recipe because it has high protein value than any legumes.

Black gram improves digestion,increases energy and it contains iron,copper,calcium, magnesium,zinc,potassium and Phosphorus.

Black gram contains vitamins and minerals particularly it is good for boosting Bone density,that is why in village they offer this kind of healthy food for teenage girls and as well as women.

This black gram is commonly found in every Indian Kitchen,popular  both in south and north.

Black gram is an excellent source of calcium that boost the bone mineral density.

Black gram is good for pregnant women and girls.

This ulundhan Kanji is a sweet version so I add Palm jaggery as a sweetner.

Use splitted black gram so that it will be easy to cook than the whole black gram

Ingredients we need for ulundhan kanji 

  •  Split black gram -2 cups
  •  Garlic  -10 cloves
  •  Coconut - 1cup 
  • Palm jaggery /karupatti / Panai vellam-150 grams

How to make ulundhan kanji

Wash black gram well and add it to a pressure cooker add 6 cups of water.





Add peeled garlic along with it 



Cook till 5 whistles and turn off the flame.




Now take a sause pan add crushed palm jaggery/panai vellam and add a cup of water


Boil it till the jaggery dissolves



Add this jaggery syrup to a pressure cooker and boil for 5 minutes adjust the consistency by adding hot water now switch off the flame




Add grated coconut and give a good mix




Now ulundhan kanji is ready to serve.


Have this tasty ulundhan kanji once in a week , this will make the bones stronger.
