Kovakkai poriyal

 Kovakkai poriyal| ivy gourd stir fry recipe | tindora stir fry





Ingredients

  1. Oil   -  3 tbsp
  2. Mustard  - 1/2 tsp
  3. Cumin  -  1/2 tsp
  4. Onion 🧅 - 2
  5. Ivy gourd /tindora/kovakkai -500 grams 
  6. Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  7. Chilli powder - 1/4 tsp
  8. Salt as required 
  9. Coriander leaves
  10. Grated coconut - 2 tbsp

Instructions 

Prep work

  • Clean and wash the ivy gourd or kovakkai.  Cut into roundels 
  • Cut the onion into slices and keep it aside

How to prepare stir-fried kovakkai

  • Put some oil in a kadai, then add cumin and mustard.
  • Add the sliced onion and curry leaves, and then cook.
  • Next, add the kovakkai roundels or ivy gourd, and thoroughly mix.
  • Cover the lid and cook on a medium flame for 10 to 15 minutes, stir occasionally, do not add water 
  • Add turmeric powder, chilli powder  required salt and give a good mix
  • Finally add coriander leaves and grated coconut and turn off the flame🔥 
  • Kovakkai poriyal is ready to serve with sambar rice, curd rice or rasam rice

Clean and wash the ivy gourd or kovakkai.  Cut into roundels


Add oil,mustard and cumin



Add the sliced onion and curry leaves, and then saute well


Next, add the kovakkai roundels or ivy gourd, and thoroughly mix.



Cover the lid and cook on a medium flame for 10 to 15 minutes, stir occasionally, do not add water 


Add turmeric powder, chilli powder  required salt and give a good mix, cook until the raw smell of the malalas disappear 


Add coriander leaves


Finally add a little grated coconut 🥥 and turn off the flame,, 


simple and healthy kovakkai poriyal is ready to serve
