Nethili fish or anchovy in English,is a small silvery fish  with very soft bones

Nethili fish are very flavourful when fried or curried, health benefits of nethili fish include Omega 3 fatty acids improve heart health, and good for brain functions 

Anchovies are also high in selenium which helps to improve heart health

How to clean nethili fish/anchovy 

Just remove the head in a downward direction and clean the stomach part then wash in freshwater
You can even remove its tail for making Curry, no need to remove the tail for frying, the crispy part of a fried anchovy is the tail so, don't waste it.

Crispy and tasty fish fry goes well with rice and fish curry or with any curry

Commonly anchovies are high in sodium, which may be a health risk for those with high blood pressure, so consume them in a low amount

Ingredients


Oil  for frying
Nethili meen/anchovy - 1/2 kg
Chili powder - 1 1/2 tbsp
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Pepper powder - 1/2 tsp
Cumin powder - 1/2 tsp
Corn flour  - 2 tbsp
Salt as required
Curry leaves

Instructions

  • Clean the nethili fish and drain the water completely 
  • Add masalas, like chili powder, turmeric powder, pepper powder, cumin powder, 
  • Add corn flour and the required salt and mix well till the masala is coated on all sides
  • Now, marinate for 30 minutes, keep it inside the freezer, and let it get marinated
  • Heat oil in a kadai/skillet, once the oil is hot add in marinated nethili meen/ anchovy 
  • Add Curry leaves for a good flavor, you can even skip this, it's optional
  • Fry until crisp on a high to medium flame, takes a few minutes
  • Remove from oil strain the fried fish and serve hot
  • Nethili fish fry is ready to relish with white rice and fish curry or any rice-based recipes

Add turmeric powder



Add chili powder




Add pepper powder 




Add cumin powder



Add required salt


Add corn flour, and mix well, sprinkle some water and mix till the masalas are coated well 


Marinate for half an hour


Heat oil for frying,


add in fish and fry on a medium flame until it's crisp and done


Add curry leaves for a good flavor, it's optional


Strain and serve
