Simple dal recipe
This is a very very simple dal fry recipe, or a basic dal recipe,and also a very healthy and tasty recipe made with toor dal/thuvaram paruppu or pigeon pea
This toor dal contains many nutritional benefits and tastes delicious, kids just love this recipe,
Toor dal contains protein, fat and fiber which is essential for our body, and also it contains iron and folic acid.
Adding this to our diet may help in lower the blood pressure levels, and reduces bad cholesterol.
This dal fry recipe that saves time, easy to make, healthy and it's a one pot recipe.
Ingredients
Toor dal /thuvaram paruppu/pigeon pea -1 cup
Shallot -2
tomato -1
Cumin -1/2 tsp
Garlic - 2 minced
Turmeric powder -1/4 tsp
Oil -2 tsp
mustard -1 tsp
Dry red chilli -2
Onion for tempering
Asafoetida -1/4 tsp
Curry leaves
Salt as required
Instructions
- Rinse toor dal thoroughly and add it to a pressure cooker,add 3 cups of water
- Add asafoetida
- Add turmeric powder
- Then goes in the chopped tomatoes, cumin, garlic and shallot
- close the lid and cook till 4 whistles or cook on a low flame for 20 minutes
- Now let the pressure release by itself naturally, open the lid and add seasoning
- In a small pan add oil, mustard let it crackle, then add dry red chilli,finely chopped onion and curry leaves, golden fry then and add it to dal
- Give a good mix and add finely chopped coriander leaves and required salt
- dal fry is ready to serve with white rice or as a side dish, this dal fry goes well with rasam rice.
