Peerkangaai kootu|ridge gourd curry recipe

Ridge gourd is a popular vegetable in India.This green vegetable contain flesh and seeds which is edible.

 Ridge gourd has several health benifits starting from its water content, iron, vitamin C, dietary fiber and contains very low fat.

Good for eye sight, nourishes liver health and purifies blood 

Ingredients

Oil              -2 tbsp
Mustard     -1 tspn
Onion          -1/2
Cumin         -1/2 tbsp
Coconut       -1/4 cup
Green chilli    -3
Ridge gourd/peerkangaai  1/2 kg
Moong dal    1/2 cup
Turmeric powder -1/4 spn
Salt as required
Curry leaves

Instructions

Firstly peel off the skin of peerkangaai or ridge gourd and dice  them as you wish.

Add moong dal to a pot or pressure cooker and rinse well then add required water,be careful do not add too much of water because ridge gourd release water naturally when it gets cooked

Then add chopped ridge gourd and close the lid and cook till two whistles

Meanwhile add coconut, cumin and green chilli to a jar and make a coarse paste

Now add this coconut paste to peerkangaai kootu and bring it to boil until the raw smell of cumin and green chilli disappear 

Finally season this kootu with oil, mustard, onion and curry leaves and add this to peerkangaai kootu that's it, peerkangaai kootu is ready to relish.

Peerkangaai kootu|ridge gourd curry with pictures

Peel off the skin and chop them up.


 
Add moong dal and required water, do not add too much water,



 Add chopped ridge gourd and cook till two whistles


Add green chilli, coconut, cumin and make a coarse paste add this to peerkangaai kootu and add a little turmeric powder and give a good mix


Add required salt and cook for a couple of minutes



Season this kootu by add oil, mustard, onion and curry leaves, pour this to peerkangaai kootu and give a good mix


Peerkangaai/ridge gourd kootu is ready to relish


A very healthy kootu goes well with white rice or side dish for sambar or rasasm rice.
