Nethili meen kuzhambu anchovy fish curry

Ingredients

  1. Moong dal -3/4 cup
  2. Tomato    -2 medium size
  3. Shallot      -10
  4. Turmeric powder  -1/4 tspn
  5. Chilli powder    -1 tbsp
  6. Oil                 -2 tbsp 
  7. Mustard       -1 tspn
  8. Onion          -1 small size
  9. Curry leaves 
  10. Coriander leaves 
  11. Salt as required
  12. Asafoetida -1 pinch

Instructions

  • Wash moong dal and add it to a pressure cooker then add water
  • Add shallot and tomato
  • Then goes in the masalas like turmeric powder and chilli powder
  • That's it close the lid and cook till three whistles.
  • Let the pressure release naturally
  • Now open the cooker and add required salt and just mash with wooden on steel masher 
  • Adjust the consistency of the sambar by adding hot water
  • Then add finely chopped coriander leaves
  • Place a small pan on stove, add oil then add mustard seeds, let it crackle then goes in the chopped onion and curry leaves golden fry it, and add a pinch of asafoetida and turn off the flame
  • Pour this to sambar and give a good mix
  • Simple,healthy and tasty tiffin sambar is ready to serve with idly,dosa medu vada,bonda,ven pongal or with any snack recipes.

Add chopped shallots


Add chopped tomatoes


Add turmeric powder


Add chilli powder


Cook till three whistles and let the pressure release naturally, then add required salt and mash well


Adjust the consistency by adding hot water and allow it to boil for few minutes, add chopped coriander leaves

Place a small pan on stove, add oil then add mustard seeds, let it crackle then goes in the chopped onion and curry leaves golden fry it, and add a pinch of asafoetida and turn off the flame,add this to sambar
