I often make this chutney at my home,it is  very simple to make this chutney, if you have fresh coconut it would tastes better with roasted Bengal gram,a piece of ginger gives a good flavour to the chutney, this is one of the favorite chutneys of my family members .

This chutney goes well with idly,dosa,  Wheat dosa , medu vadai, bajji and even for chapathi and for many breakfast and snack recipes.

Ingredients 

  1. Coconut  -3/4 cup
  2. Garlic    -3
  3. Ginger   -a small piece
  4. Green chilli -3
  5. Roasted Bengal gram -2 tbsp
  6. Salt as required
  7. Curry leaves
  8. Asafoetida -a pinch
  9. Oil               -1 tbsp
  10. Mustard and dal  -1 tspn
  11. Onion a small piece for tempering 

Instructions

  • Firstly add sliced coconut or grated coconut to a jar
  • Then add a piece of ginger and garlic
  • Add green chilli 
  • Add roasted Bengal gram
  • Then add curry leaves and salt as required 
  • Add required water and grind well to a smooth consistency.
  • Now place a small pan on stove for tempering add oil, then mustard,let it crackle, add finely chopped onion and curry leaves, golden fry it and add a pinch of asafoetida and turn off the flame
  • Add this tempering to coconut chutney
  • You can even skip tempering if you want to
  • Simple coconut chutney is ready to serve

Add sliced coconut to a jar


Now add garlic and a piece of ginger


Add green chilli


Add roasted Bengal gram


Add curry leaves and required salt


Add required water and grind it to a smooth consistency



Now add tempering by adding oil to a pan, then Goes in the mustard seeds,let it to crackle then add chopped onion and curry leaves, golden fry it, finally add a pinch of asafoetida and turn of the flame add this to coconut chutney



Coconut chutney is ready to serve , if this is going to be a side dish for any snack recipes just skip the tempering.
