A typical south indian fish curry recipe that tastes like heaven...i have used Sheela fish to do this curry.

A very tasty fish curry made using tamarind and some South Indian masalas,all together a very tangy fish curry that goes well with white rice or Matta rice.

Fish curry tastes even better when it is done with a earthenware or clay pot


Sour taste and spiciness is the key for a tasty fish curry.

Ingredients

  • Oil        -  2  tbsp
  • Mustard  -1/2 tbsp
  • Fenugreek  -1/2 tbsp
  • Shallot / chinna vengayam    -15
  • Tomato                   -2 nos
  • Tamarind               - a lemon size
  • Turmeric powder  -1/4 tbsp
  • Chilli powder        -2 tbsp
  • Coriander powder-4 tbsp
  • Coconut        -1/4 cup
  • Pepper         -1/2 spn
  • Curry leaves 
  • Salt             -as required 
  • Fish           -1/2 kg

Instructions

Place a pot on a medium flame add oil, finely chopped onion and saute well then add finely chopped tomatoes,immediately add salt so that the tomatoes cook well. It's time to add masalas like turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder and add water to adjust the consistency, cook till the raw smell of the masala disappear, add tamarind water or tamarind pulp, bring it to boil for 10 Minutes on a high flame.

How to make coconut milk

Add coconut and pepper to a jar then add water and grind it to a fine paste, add little water and strain the coconut milk

Add this coconut milk to the curry and let it boil in a low flame,until you see the oil get seperated from  the curry and that is the correct time to add fish,add fish and cook for five minutes in a low flame. Turn off the flame when the fish is cooked.heat a pan and add oil then add Fenugreek and mustard let it crackle and turn in colour then add onion and curry leaves fry this to add up some flavour to the fish curry. Add this to fish curry and serve with rice.

Add water and stir it up to adjust the consistency




Add tamarind water, let it boil well till the raw smell disappear




Add coconut and pepper to a jar, grind it well, add water and strain the coconut milk


Add coconut milk to the curry and allow it boil 


Add fish and cook for five minutes on low flame so that the fish can absorb all the taste 



Now heat a small pan add oil,mustard, Fenugreek and let it crackle and change in colour, now add onion and curry leaves, pour this in fish curry



Tasty Fish curry is ready to serve with rice.
