(long bean stir fry)



Karamani or long bean, yard long bean is a healthy legume which contain many nutrients such as vitamin A, vitamin C, phosphorus, potassium and antioxidants that protects our body for cell damage

Karamani poriyal is a simple and healthy recipe and very easy to make it can be served as a side dish for sambar,vendaya kuzhambu or even with simple rasam 

This South Indian side dish is prepared within twenty minutes which has many nutrients and good for our health, this is also good for fatty liver

Adding dry red chilli or chilli powder makes poriyal to change its natural colour so i add green chilli for spiciness.

Recipe ingredients

  • Karamani/long bean -40 nos
  • Mustard and urad dal(combined)-1 spoon
  • Oil                      - 3 tbsp
  • Garlic                - 3 cloves 
  • Green chilli      -2 nos
  • Cumin               -2 tbsp 
  • Salt as required 
  • Curry leaves
  • Water

Recipe instructions

Wash the karamani 



Chop them into smal pieces and keep it aside

Now place a pan or kadai and heat well, add oil

Add mustard and urad dal


Add curry leaves


Now add chopped karamani and saute well


Add water to cook the karamani else it will burn and cook well



Meanwhile add green chilli, cumin and garlic to a jar and pulse it twice, that is more than enough,do not make a fine paste 


Now add this grounded masala to  karamani poriyal 


Add required salt and saute well


Finally add greated coconut and turn off the flame and serve 


Serve this healthy poriyal with rice or chappathi.
